In The Beginning

As stated on the previous page I have decided to take up the challenge of certifying L3.

Step 1 was to purchase the parts, in this case a kit.  The Smokin' Rockets 7.5 inch Amraam, a very close to full scale model of the AIM-120 air to air missile.  The real Aim120 is 7 inch diameter and 12 feet long, mine will be the same length but 7.5 inch diameter.

Step 2 was to find two Tripoli TAP members to review my project as it progresses.  The two great people who have the unenviable task of monitoring my insanity are:
Bill Rossi, NJ - owner of Smokin' Rockets
David Wilkins, VIC Australia - Tripoli Australia

Step 3 is to begin to document everything, so below are the obligatory photos of the main parts of the rocket.  Not shown is the miscellaneous hardware such as the u-bolts, harnesses and chutes, etc.

Amraam Kit

Here are the parts from the kit. The airframe sections are PML pre-glassed 7.51 inch tubing. The nosecone is a PML fiberglass 7.51 nosecone. The motor mount is a 98mm PML tube. Two couplers and a short piece of airframe are shown next to the nose cone. At the bottom are 4 centering rings and 3 bulkheads.
